Nestling in a valley high up in the Haut
Var, just a few minutes drive from the
dappled square of hilltop medieval
Bargemon, surrounded by woodland,
a mountainous backdrop and olive
groves, Le Moulin San Peyre is set in
the most tranquil position, yet only 40
minutes drive from the glamorous Rivera.
Built in the 17th century with parts rebuilt
in 1808, this provencal olive mill offers a
great feeling of space. Most unusually, it
has retained its original olive press and
wheel equipment as a feature of the
extremely spacious living/dining room.
A stone archway leads to a bright kitchen
and stone staircase. There ate five double
bedrooms on the first floor dividing neatly
into three separate areas with large
spacious halls/ landing areas connecting
them. They overlook either the pool or
gardens to the front, olive groves and
mountains to the side or a private
courtyard with its own terrace, fig trees
and mountain backdrop to the rear.
A
further guest room in the turret has its
own entrance, large windows overlooking
the pool and another beautiful wheel as a
feature in the room. Landscaped gardens
and paving lined with fig and walnut trees
lead down to the pool and Cabanna - an
outdoor living/dining room with BBQ
making this the ideal spot for lunch in the
shade.
Looking back towards the mill,
you have a distant view of Bargemon
perched up on the hillside and of the Haut
Var Mountains around you. The main
terrace in front of the Moulin is another
option for dining al fresco with the
tranquil and relaxing acoustics of a
bubbling stream. This peaceful spot in Provence is known as "The Pearl of The Var" and one can see why. With the delights of St Tropez just 1 hour away and 40 minutes from the beaches of St Maxime, the Moulin San Pere is an ideal hideaway in unspoilt Provence, within easy reach of the Cote d'Azur.
