l'Apevoun is a stunning, attractive and stylish
18th century farmhouse in this area of
outstanding natural beauty.Mas de l'Apevoun
"the farmhouse of the beekeeper" has been
stunningly renovated by its owner, a
renowned British interior designer included in
2001's 'Top 100 Designers' by Architectural
Digest and 2002 House & Garden. Mas de
l'Apevoun, with its peaceful gardens is a
haven of tranquility combining tasteful
sophistication with rustic charm.
The
farmhouse is situated just outside St. Remy in
the shadow of the Alpilles, in one of the most
sensual areas of Provence beloved of artists
and poets. Cezanne and Van Gogh both
painted here. Just up the road from Mas de
l'Apevoun one can visit the monastery in
which Van Gogh spent his last months and
painted some of his most famous works.Those
interested in history will particularly enjoy the
extraordinary Roman remains of the lost city
of Glanum.
One can cycle or drive there from
the farmhouse along the ancient road Via
Aurelia (turn right to Spain, left to Rome),
which lies just across the canal beyond the
large swimming pool. The heart of the house is
its enormous double height family kitchen
with stone clad floor and old Provencal
fireplace. Using her new fabrics the owner has
created a bright and cheerful but relaxed
environment with pale lime wash walls and
wonderfully comfortable furnishings, all
combining to create the ultimate luxurious
but characterful home. We have no qualms
about recommending what we believe to be
an exceptionally enchanting home.
