BONNET DU GARD Sleeps 8 The village of St. Bonnet du Gard, with its honey colored houses clinging to a rocky hillside, is the setting for this beautiful 17th century Provencal Mas, sympathetically restored with traditional materials and furnished with authentic antiques. Exposed stone arches, beamed ceilings and deep set doors and windows are clear indications of the age of this character filled property. Ranging over two levels, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, skillfully decorated with a faultless combination of antique furnishings and modern artwork. One of the two reception rooms is dominated by a handsomely carved wooden pool table, while the other houses a lovely dining area. Two large bedrooms with en-suite baths are to be found in the main house, while two bedrooms with baths are to be found in the “tower” by the summer dining area. The Mas opens onto a charming enclosed courtyard, where the ivy clad walls embrace the sunlight that shines down on to an elegant swimming pool, presided over by a Roman style fountain and tall palm trees. The scent of the citrus trees pervades the air and deepens the sense of calm, so conducive to a siesta in this delightful spot. St. Bonnet du Gard is still an authentic Provencal village, noted for its impressive 12th century church. The house is very well located for exploring the surrounding area , so beloved by artists and writers, with Le Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct built in the 4th century and now a beloved leisure spot, just a few kms. away. The medieval town of Uzes is also within easy reach – the lively Saturday market is well worth a visit.
